El día 5 de agosto se realizó un evento en Iyok Ami Hostel Tours (lodge situado en el kilómetro 71 de la carretera Interamericana Sur-Ruta 2). Este local está gestionado por Bedrich Sruta, a quien agradecemos enormemente por acoger nuestro evento en sus instalaciones. Fue un evento abierto al público pero con invitación especial a todas aquellas personas que nos han dado acceso a sus fincas para poder realizar el proyecto, así como a todas aquellas personas que han participado de una u otra forma en el proyecto y a las comunidades que viven en esta área. Queríamos compartir con todos y todas los resultados preliminares que hemos obtenido en este primer año de trabajo de campo. Desde el proyecto queremos agradecer la participación de todas aquellas personas que asistieron en persona u online; estamos muy contentos con el interés que despertó el proyecto y esperamos continuar compartiendo eventos de este tipo ya que para nosotros todas estas personas son parte esencial del proyecto.

On August 5th, an event was held at Iyok Ami Hostel Tours (a lodge located at kilometer 71 of the Pan-American highway-Route 2). This lodge is managed by Bedrich Sruta, whom we greatly thank for hosting our event on their premises. The event was open to all, but we extended a special invitation to those who had granted us access to their lands for our research, as well as to all who had participated in the project and the communities living in the area. We wanted to share with everyone the preliminary results we have obtained in this first year of fieldwork. The project team would like to express gratitude to all the individuals who attended in person or online; we are thrilled with the interest the project has generated and look forward to continuing to share more events like this with all of you. All of you have been an integral part of this project, and we appreciate your support.

Amaia Autor (investigadora principal de este proyecto) recibe la beca de la Fundación La Caixa para realizar el doctorado en biología de fauna salvaje en la Universidad de Montana en Estados Unidos. Las becas se entregaron en un evento presidido por representantes de fundación y los reyes de España. La tesis doctoral de Amaia se centrará en la investigación del tigrillo.

Amaia Autor, the principal investigator of this project, has been awarded a postgraduate fellowship by the La Caixa Foundation to pursue a Ph.D. in Wildlife Biology at the University of Montana in the United States. In July 2023, the King and Queen of Spain together with the representatives of La Caixa Foundation presided over the awards ceremony for this fellowship. Amaia's doctoral thesis will focus on oncilla research.

Los días 12 y 13 de abril realizamos actividades de educación ambiental en la Trinidad para los estudiantes de 3 grupos: kínder, 1er y 2º grado.

On April 12th and 13th, we conducted environmental education activities at La Trinidad School for students from three groups: kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade.

En estos talleres se les habló a los estudiantes del tigrillo y de otros felinos. Enseñándoles cuales viven en Costa Rica y cuales en otras partes del mundo. También se les habló de las amenazas que el tigrillo puede estar enfrentando en la zona de la Trinidad (como atropellos o fragmentación de hábitat) y de medidas que todos podemos tomar para paliar dichas amenazas.. Todo esto se hizo de una forma lúdica de tal forma que pudieron aprender de manera visual y entretenida los conceptos que se trataron.

During these workshops, we talked to the students about the oncilla and other wildcats, highlighting which ones live in Costa Rica and which ones in other parts of the world. We also discussed the threats that the oncilla might be facing in the La Trinidad area, such as roadkill and habitat fragmentation, and shared measures that we can all take to mitigate these threats. The workshops were designed to be interactive and engaging, allowing the students to learn visually and enjoyably about the concepts discussed.
